Successful
Avenues Street Fair
(Sept.
18, 2004)--A nother
edition of the Greater Avenues Community Council's Street Fair is
in the history books.
Thousands
of fun-seekers turned out Saturday for the annual one-day celebration
of local artists, musicians, people, and food.
The
weather was almost ideal, though gusty winds gave the vendors a
number of anxious moments.
Chairman
of the fair for the past several years has been Walt Zwierzycki.
He was brought back by popular demand for one last (his sixth) street
fair. He is retiring because he has moved from the Avenues and must
move on to new challenges.
Walt
says the annual fair wouldn't be possible without the neighbors'
generous "donation" of their street for the day. Water
and power are provided to fuel the booths and make the fair run
smoothly. It takes about 50 volunteers to plan the fair and many
more who give their time and effort during the fair itself.
