Popperton Park Art Project - $50,000 is set aside to create an art object that would enhance beauty of the park. The artwork should be both safe and visually engaging for those who use and visit the park. Goals: enhance park visitors’ experience; engage the visitors in appreciation of the natural setting of the park; contribute to the sense of place for the neighborhood; ensure issues of safety, maintenance, and vandalism have been addressed by the artist. Criteria include artistic design and quality, appropriateness for the site; successfully addressing the project goals, ability of the artist to complete the work as proposed. Artist must carry insurance and submit engineering drawings for approval prior to the start of the fabrication. Manager of the Sunflower Market will come and give a presentation. 228 “B” Street – Stoneman’s Grocery – has had a non-conforming use permit. They have renewed it even though they don’t have a store there. Snowbird proposed to build a Mountain Coaster which will cross a road on a bridge. There is a Hearing on it by the County on March 16 @ 1:00 pm North Building. You can make public comment to the County planner, Spencer Sanders (ssanders@slco.org.) We did send a letter to the Mayor opposing the ADU Accessory Dwelling Units and Dave attended a hearing. Hopefully the letter will get to the Planning Commission. City Creek Canyon road will be an off-leash area from November to April. (Editorial comment by the Secretary: I personally think that is really a terrible idea, and should not have been decided on without public comment.) Kletting Park – The Federal Safety Standard requires that the playground equipment at the Park on “B” Street be replaced. We can comment on which new ones we favor. So go to the park and then go to the Library and vote on which one you prepare. 5th Ave. Tennis Courts are included in a proposal to repair the tennis courts, but it is a federal grant that likely won’t get funded. Emergency Preparedness. Judith Locke, Bev Nelson from Federal Heights and a specialist from the Emigration Stake met with John Flindt. Organizers from local Church Wards are active in this. We want to have the GACC as a cover over all the local “Wards” which are in neighborhoods, and then we have more communication. We are going to also set up some more CERT classes. We may want to do our own training and our own funding. Carleton DeTar is in charge of this, as soon as he gets back from Japan where he is on Sabbatical. Fraternity Problems: Years ago the city required any apartment that had more than 3 units to be inspected yearly for fire safety. Then about a month ago we became aware that boarding houses and fraternity houses are not covered. Some have more than 30 people living in them. They have never been fire-inspected. There are some state laws on how big basement bedroom windows are for fire safety. The fraternities have been exempt which is a problem if there were a fire. Some Fraternities hold parties with several hundred people, with only one entrance. Stan is in the process of putting Boarding Houses and Fraternity Houses covered in the Good Landlord ordinance. Ask Stan to report on it. Otherwise, we will go to the Press. Fraternity Parking problems are also a concern. The City is re-thinking that issue. Federal Heights Neighborhood Asso.
