GREATER
AVENUES COMMUNITY COUNCIL Minutes
October 4, 2000 Held at the Sweet Library
Meeting Conducted by Richard Leonard
beginning 7:00 pm
POLICE
REPORT: Overall, the crime is down in the Avenues.
There
was 1 aggravated assault. The suspect knew the victim
and he
came on the porch and began stabbing him. Drugs are
suspected.
There were 5 stolen vehicles. All recovered. One had
the keys
in it. The Police have information on a suspect who
may have
been stealing cars in the Avenues. The 4th and 5th
were not
thefts, but repossessions. There were 8 burglaries in
the Avenues.
In one, the owner worked downstairs while it happened.
One was
a stolen cat that an ex-roommate took. One involved a
rock,
which was thrown through the window, and many CD's
were taken.
The owner went to a Pawn Shop that sells CD's and
found the
CD's. With the help of the Pawn Shop a suspect is
under arrest.
Another was a non-forced entry through an open window,
where
they took cash and a rifle. There were 11 car strips.
Four of
the 5 people who have been identified in the thefts
are behind
bars; the 5th is known, but is in hiding.
CITY
COUNCIL: Tom Rogan: There is a major Citywide
initiative
in regards to traffic coming. It will begin in the
Avenues.
Larry Rigby will discuss it with you. It is called the
PACE
Program. Thanks for all the great work involving the
Street
Fair. It was a great success. Dave Hart will talk
about the
Capitol Hill renovation. We are studying the Master
Plan in
the preparation. There is a very powerful literary gem
of a
Play at the Salt Lake Acting Company. It deals primary
with
race relationships and community building. I recommend
you all
see it. It will give us insights in our attitudes and
ourselves
in relationship to everybody. It is called White
People. It
is on Marmalade Avenues, I think is the address. It
runs through
October 29th. QUESTION: Who paid for the City
Council
to go see it? RESPONSE: The City.
