Day Care Registration Fees - Amy & Peter Corroon:   The Corroons started exploring day care options for their daughter Sohie 10 months ago, before Sophie was even born. They were not being too particular. They wanted the place licensed, to have a good reputation, to be safe. They visited 7 places and all had waiting lists. Four charged a nonrefundable fee of $15-50, with no guarantee they would be accepted. Amy has 20 days until she has to return to work and still has no day care opportunity for Sophie. Their concerns: the waiting period for space if over 7 months for an infant, the waiting list fees, no guaranteed place. Please sign the petition being handed out if interested. How do we make child care more accessible for families?

Q/C:  Infant care is different than 2-4 year olds. Ration of 4-1 for infants. Normally day care centers provide care for 6 months and up. The YWCA and U of U also have programs. There are zero places for infants.

Q/C:  Is a nanny a good alternative? That would be 1 on 1 care, more expensive, maybe $500-1000/month. The nanny idea a good one to pursue but experienced ones are expensive and to get a student with no experience (for an infant) doesn't appeal to Amy.

Q/C:  How widespread is this need? It may be a resource our community is lacking. We should put this on the website and in our newsletter.

Q/C:  Religious groups sometimes fill this need and the federal government provides money as well. Stay at home moms could provide child care but we need to find out the legalities of this option.

Olympic Committee - Peter Corroon:  We have 50 people in our programs signed up but we need more in each area. We need a chair person for the historic home tour and the music chair person is looking for resource people.
