GREATER
AVENUES COMMUNITY COUNCIL Minutes
February 2, 2001 Page 7
1st Open Forum - Jim Jenkins
212 5th Ave: Car dealers charge $150
for paper
work to process buying a car. Is that overhead or what? And at our
next
meeting we want to invite an expert on global climate change as an
additional
discussion to the one on radioactive waste.
2nd Open Forum - Dave Knudson 624 9th Ave: Moved here from Capitol Hill and wants to say hi and introduce himself.
3rd Open Forum - Floyd Hebdon: What has happened to the money that was available to re-do South Temple? Ans: (Tom Rogan) It's been put aside until the light rail on 4th South is complete. Too much construction at once was too much to handle.
4th Open Forum - Ann Larsen: 582 Terrace Hills Dr. We live across from 11th Ave Park and have a problem in the warm weather. That park is supposed to close at 11 p.m. but it's not happening. Gang groups hang out there and shots are fired, some of which have gone through their windows. The police indicate that gangs are moving into the Avenues. She wants to organize something to get that park closed at 11 p.m.
Comments:
Call 799-3000 and get
lots of
people to call as well. The more you get to call the better the
response
from the police. If the city is expected to close the gates to the
park,
they will never get closed. We can't lock the gates by ourselves
without
a patrolman unless we lock the cars in because it's too dangerous
to ask
them (as a civilian) to leave the area.
Almost every park in the whole valley is locked all winter long--this one should be too.
Larry Rigby said he would bring this up in the police academy meeting he attends 1 night a week for 10 weeks.
Adjournment 8:50 p.m.
