CITY: Tom Rogan, City Council. The Mayor and the City Council have resolved the City Council and Mayor issue on turf issues. His Affirmative Action Executive Orders didn’t interfere with any of our laws, so we left them as is. His Non-discrimination Ordinance went farther than we wanted but it was adequate so we did not dispute it: Gifts: The Council’s ordinance had a $50 threshold. The Mayor’s said no gifts, no nothing. So the City Council Dave Buhler and Carlton Christensen were very respectful and although they didn’t agree with him, they saw that he was within his rights. We are to set policy for the City, the Mayor is to implement that policy. We are working very cooperatively. You can call me or email me at: teefar@aros.net.
SCHOOL BOARD: The School board voted on the criteria that we would give the School Closure Committee. You may see me for that if you are interested. The school lunch program is losing money in High School. We need to make it more cool and nutritious. Last week we met on a High School Summit working on plans with what we are going to do for our children who are scoring low on testing and academically.
MEMORY GROVE RESTORATION: The City will be letting out bids for $1,000,000 in projects to be done this summer. They will plant 320 trees; lay 25,000 feet of sod, plant 11,000 plants. We are looking for lighting projects, and fixing the east entrance on A Street to Memory Grove. Our annual clean up day will be June 16th. Please all plan on coming and helping clean up Memory Grove. Trees that died in our last planting are guaranteed, and will be replaced.
There will be a grand re-opening of the Park on November 10th. The Legislature funded $125,000 for work on the West side, near the Capitol.
The Memorial House was restored and is leased to the Heritage Foundation. It is used almost daily. The neighborhood is pleased with how it is going.
