Some concern over light pollution was mentioned. This subject will be taken up next month.
TRAFFIC: Jim Jenkin – David Hart of Capitol Restoration expressed an interest in serving on the traffic committee to help resolve the problems of commuter traffic. We will meet with him at our next traffic meeting. We need to get consensus of all neighbors so we can go to UDOT and perhaps find a solution to the Victory Road/ Columbus street traffic problem. We issued a joint statement with Capitol Hill last year.
SPEAKERS: Jim Jenkin – Do we, as Avenues Residents want to have invited speakers, such as the one on Global Warming? Would we want them on another night? RESPONSES: Give a short review of the topic in the newsletter only. We are too busy as it is. Our meetings are too long anyway. The UofU could sponsor speakers and we could be made aware of them in the Newsletter. It would need to be very short and very useful to take our time. We already have a set purpose: community issues. We don’t have time for other things. I have lots to do, and I’m here only for one thing: the Avenues.
OLYMPICS: Peter Corroon. I have made out a flyer on the Olympic Events that the Avenues are sponsoring to be handed out to the news media. Any suggestions on the flyer, call Peter Corroon.
CHILD CARE IN THE AVENUES: Mrs. Corroon – If you know of anyone who would like to offer in home childcare, please give us a call.
OPEN FORUM: Susan Workman: We are unhappy with our street lights. What do we do? John Sittner said he would help us. RESPONSE: He is too busy with the Olympics. Don’t sign that the work is completed until you are pleased. Call Felt Lighting again. (She should also call the City.)
Carol Menges: 521 E. 5th Avenue – We would like curb-side recycling at our apartment. What can we do? Tom Rogan: It is a budget issue. Send me an email at teefar@aros.net.
Sally Lloyd: I want to put up a wrought-iron fence. What do I have to do? Contact the City Council and they will tell you whom to contact. You are in a Historical District.
NEXT MONTH: Put recycling on the Agenda, Put Street Lighting on the Agenda, Add June 1
