Announcements:

REPORTS: Police: Linda Ward (Phone 799-3444) is replacing Derek Coates for our area. She is new to this assignment, but is a 22 year veteran in the police dept. She has a lot of experience when it comes to street work. She will keep a daily log of happenings so she can check into events at a later time.

Kim Guess: The police will be changing assignments every 2 years and will rotate our people to another division. Question: about the amount of crime targeted at the southwest quadrant of the avenues--is there an effort to change that? Answer: A lot are car strips and prowls where people park on the street. Paintballing incidents have been reported as well as egging vehicles etc.. Random acts of vandalism. Probably kids from the area. Our community action team (this police group) received the award from the Rotary Club for being the best police dept in the city. Comment: We've had vagrants sleeping in the library doorway. Could we request more patrolling? Answer: If you see a suspicious person or behavior, call 799-3000 and report that. No one needs to go hungry cold or without food--there are a lot of services available. Sex assault--little gal partying at Liberty Park and after leaving there, continued partying up here. She had reported to a hospital in the valley for a urinary problem. The hospital reported she might have been raped. She had blacked out, was very disoriented, and her clothes were in a pile. It could have been a date rape drug. Date rape drugs are still a real problem. We don't have evidence, witnesses, etc. Robbery sat Smith's of taking beer. Reported by people and they helped police. Another robbery was a lady at home doing paper work. A gentleman came to the door and she asked what he wanted. He said he was there for the TV and he took it and walked out. Another gal came home from work early with a headache. She thought the noise she heard was her cats but someone had gone in through a window and entered her basement apartment. She said go out the way you came in, and he did. All have been daytime burglaries--9 total. Only one was a break-in and included ransacking the house. The other 8 burglaries were unsecured homes. Take your phone when you go to answer the door and have some way to see who is at your door. 6 auto thefts reported but really only 5. A person got up went to work, came home for lunch, was late, jumped in car and drove to work. Walked home after work and reported the car stolen but later remembered the car was at work. One was a motorcycle on front lawn for sale. 2 had keys in the car. 3 aggravated assaults. 1 was domestic violence. If you know someone who is struggling with domestic violence, call 978 3333. They can refer you to help. Two people had been partying all day. Got into an argument and broke a bottle. A nanny dropped child off at dance class. Man behind her showed a knife and yelled at her. She reported the incident.
